Waste Audit – Improve Your Company’s Bottom Line
Do you know how your company’s waste and recyclable materials are being handled? Whether you are a new or an established business, a waste audit from Quincy Recycle can help you gain valuable insight into your company’s waste stream. Read on to learn about how a waste stream analysis can help position your business to achieve your waste reduction and sustainability goals.
What is a Waste Audit?
Our comprehensive waste stream analysis looks at your business operations to discover and identify opportunities to improve your waste reduction efforts. We look to find ways to help your business meet your sustainability goals by reducing waste and your landfill costs. Together these efforts help improve your bottom line while creating a positive impact on the environment.
Quincy Recycle uses a 3-step waste evaluation process, otherwise known as the three “M’s.” Measure. Mobilize. Maximize.
We’ll measure your business setup and current recycling needs and goals. Then we’ll mobilize and implement a plan designed to help your business in achieving your waste reduction goals. Finally, we’ll maximize your results through on-going monthly reporting and analysis to ensure the improvements are working as intended.
Let’s take a closer look at each step of the process.
Step 1 – Measure
To kick things off, our team will do an in-person evaluation of your business operation. Throughout this evaluation, we’ll spend time getting to know your business and your current processes. We’ll review reporting available from your current providers. This could include things like receiving reports, waste hauler statements, and trash reports. We’ll also look closely at the types of materials you are recycling, such as metals, paper, plastics, etc., as well as the items being sent to the landfill.
Is your facility set up in the best way to maximize the stream or flow of your waste while on-site? Our team will look at that, too! This could include analyzing the layout of current equipment and workstations, as well as evaluating whether additional recycling equipment would add value and create efficiencies in how you manage your waste at your facility.
The overarching goal of the Measure step of the process is to help us gain a holistic view of how your waste stream is currently managed from start to finish. With this information, we can provide you with actionable recommendations that will lower your costs while diverting materials from landfills.
Step 2 – Mobilize
The audit is complete and we’ve delivered a comprehensive and customized proposal with specific steps to minimize your waste and improve your bottom line. The next step is to mobilize and implement these process improvements.
Are you throwing something away that could otherwise be used? We’ll use our national network to find someone who can reuse and re-purpose your waste in the creation of new consumer goods. Could your facility benefit from new or different recycling equipment? Our equipment division can set you up with the right tools for the job. Don’t have the time to deal with recycling logistics? Our in-house logistics and fleet teams make it easy and take the guesswork out of managing your waste stream.
Every business is different so our recommendations are never a one-size-fits-all solution. We customize our recommendations for your business and design plans to help you reduce costs and waste simultaneously.
Step 3 – Maximize
The final step! By now you should expect to see tangible improvements in how your waste stream is being managed. But, how can you be sure? To help ensure we are maximizing your results, your business will receive on-going monthly reporting from Quincy Recycle. That reporting will include metrics around cost savings, revenue gains, landfill diversion amounts, and material management.
This on-going reporting will show you two main things. First, the environmental impact. We’ll show you how your material is being managed, and you will learn just how much of your waste has been kept out of landfills as a result of the waste stream improvements that have been put in place.
Second is the impact on your business’ bottom line. The environmental impact from an efficiently managed waste stream is awesome, but it often translates to cost savings for your business as well. Sending waste to the landfill costs money. By diverting your waste from the landfill, you’ll avoid disposal costs, helping your company’s bottom line. As you can see, it’s a win-win.

He will be training employees at every facility to administer or use 1stAid, CPR, and AED. General Managers and Operations Managers are selecting team members at their facility to participate in the training. If you are interested in becoming certified, let your manager know. Once the training is completed – all of our facilities will be equipped with AEDs and have certified employees qualified to administer 1st Aid and CPR.
Facilities Operations & Support Manager, Craig Kurk is managing an expansion of the office space at the Quincy Support Center after a neighboring tenant recently vacated space in the building that has been home to our Support Center staff for the last 15 years. While there are no immediate needs to meet, this expansion will allow for growth opportunities in the future. Throughout this year, Mike Thompson will be completing Bollegraaf training in order to be able to lead and perform in house preventive maintenance on our equipment versus outsourcing the work. Many more employee trainings will be administered via OASIS going forward as it contains a robust Learning Management Software that allows our facility leaders to administer and deliver consistent and relevant training to employees. If you are having trouble logging in, please reach out to your local Operations Manager or General Manager. While these initiatives are exciting, always at the core of our IT priorities and initiatives is security. Our team is constantly ensuring that we have the right tools, protocols, and protections in place to keep our systems and our data protected and secure. The recent launch of the new additional security layer to our internal email systems, Egress/KnowBe4 Defend is a perfect example of this never-ending effort.
HR Manager, Laurie Gilbert reminds us all to please participate in the weekly Engage360 surveys. Your input is valuable and will help us grow and evolve. We are listening. Please engage and share your thoughts with us. Also, our Human Resources team is always here to support you with an open door and open phone policy. Never hesitate to reach out to Laurie or Shelbi when you have a personnel matter you need assistance with. You can find their contact information posted throughout the plant.

The team is excited to launch a new Accounts Payable software called Stampli. Planned for a mid to late 2nd quarter launch timeframe, Stampli will improve our overall efficiency within the department for AP processes while also providing transparency and visibility to managers about expenses throughout the month with approval authorization and workflow processes.
Reagan Costigan, Talent Acquisition & Development leader, is collaborating with plant management teams to implement leadership development training for new leaders across the company. By leveraging OASIS and other innovative platforms, she ensures that our emerging leaders have the training, confidence, and essential tools to build and maintain successful teams.
Increase the Value of Post-Industrial Plastic Scrap by Reducing Contaminants
Plastic waste continues to rise, and the U.S. remains a leading generator of plastic materials.
In response, policymakers at both state and federal levels are increasing efforts to reduce plastic pollution through regulatory measures and incentives. Several states have implemented single-use plastic bans, with more following suit.
With evolving regulations and the growing emphasis on a circular economy, businesses are exploring ways to enhance the value of their plastic scrap while maintaining compliance and operational efficiency.
Clean post-industrial plastic scrap holds more value than dirty, contaminated waste materials.
Contaminant-free plastic waste reflects a commitment to environmental responsibility while maximizing the material’s worth in the marketplace. Investing in clean recycling practices will continue to grow as a strategic business practice, and Quincy Recycle helps our customers lead by example.
Common Plastic Contaminants in Industrial Recycling
Plastic contaminants disrupt the recycling process and lower the value of materials. By being proactive during waste management, manufacturing plants, distribution centers, and other industrial settings increase potential revenue streams with clean, recyclable materials.
We commonly see the following plastic contaminants:
- Food or Organic Materials
- Product Residues
- Mixed Plastic Polymers
- Labels and Adhesives
- Mixed Metal, Paper, or other Materials
- Chemical Contaminants
- Dirt and Debris
If your plastic has some of the above contaminants, call us at 800.311.6097 to see how we can help!
Why Selling Clean Recycled Plastic Matters for Your Business
Keeping recycled plastics contaminant-free benefits the environment and your business.
Higher Market Returns
Clean, well-sorted plastics return a higher market price because they require less work to recycle and can produce the same or similar quality of products.
Lower Costs
Reducing contamination decreases the costs associated with processing and sorting plastics. Recycling waste materials over sending them to a landfill decreases disposal fees and increases potential revenue streams.
Brand Reputation
Showcasing a commitment to high-quality recycling works to strengthen your brand reputation and distinguish you as a leader in industrial sustainability.
Conserved Resources & Downcycling
Downcycling refers to recycling materials into products of lesser quality or value. Ensuring plastics are clean and free from contaminants maximizes their lifecycle, even if it means downcycling. Recycling, reusing, and producing materials at a lower quality conserve resources and energy compared to manufacturing new plastics.
Start Reducing Contaminants in Post-Industrial Recycled Plastic Today
Quincy Recycle works with industrial decision-makers and plant managers nationwide to implement effective waste management plans. By conducting a thorough waste stream audit, we identify areas of improvement, efficiency, and profitability. Adopting strategic practices early in the recycling process adds value to your bottom line and the market price of your recyclable waste.
Our team handles the logistics of implementing recycling green initiatives, but here are a couple of ways you can get started immediately:
- Gather Reports: Put together a file containing information about your facility’s waste and recycling. Include disposal fees, waste hauler statements, trash reports, waste types, invoices, and any relevant data on waste volume or current recycling efforts.
- Inventory Plastics: Categorize your facility’s waste plastic types and note contaminants commonly found before disposal.
- Define Goals: Identify specific goals you want to achieve with your new waste management plan, such as waste reduction targets, improvements in recycling rates, cost reduction, or compliance with new regulations.
We know that efficiently managing clean scrap plastic requires time and resources, so we streamline the process for our customers. Let’s work together to implement a waste management plan that’s convenient and fiscally attainable for your individual goals.
Moving Forward with Quincy Recycle
Quincy Recycle partners with clients to identify sources of contamination, implement separation strategies, and maximize the market return on plastic waste materials. Our team optimizes your recycling processes to make them environmentally sustainable and economically advantageous.
